JEAN-CLAUDE ELLENA
Creator of the Eau de Parfum “Rose Graffiti”.
Jean Claude Ellena is one of the great names of modern French perfumery. Born in Grasse, he established himself with a signature unlike any other: a crisp, airy style, almost calligraphic in its precision, where light matters as much as the materials.
He has created classics that have entered the heritage of perfumery. First for Van Cleef & Arpels, a sophisticated floral structure that became cult. Eau de Campagne for Sisley, a great green citrus chypre, lively and timeless. Eau Parfumée au Thé Vert for Bvlgari, which redefined the idea of a “clean” and elegant fragrance. And Déclaration for Cartier, a modern classic, spicy and woody, instantly recognizable. For Editions de Parfums Frédéric Malle, he also composed essential references, including Angéliques sous la Pluie, Bigarade Concentrée, L’Eau d’Hiver and Rose & Cuir.
In 2004, Hermès chose him as the house perfumer. For fourteen years, Jean Claude Ellena shaped its olfactory identity with rare coherence. Terre d’Hermès established itself as an absolute reference, mineral and woody, carved from the material itself. He opened a more intimate territory with Hermessence, and gave travel an olfactory form with Voyage d’Hermès. In the Jardins collection, he composed landscapes in motion, including Un Jardin sur le Nil, Un Jardin en Méditerranée, and Le Jardin de Monsieur Li. He also reinterpreted the Cologne spirit at Hermès with luminous signatures such as Eau de Pamplemousse Rose, Eau de Néroli Doré, and Eau de Mandarine Ambrée.
What sets Ellena apart is his way of giving style to sensation. A rose can become graffiti. A citrus, a flash of light. A musk, a clean line on the skin. Perfumery of precision, rhythm and allure, made to last.
