Bertrand Duchaufour has the temperament of a multifaceted artist. He loves contrasts, materials, angles. He can make incense vibrate, tighten a spice, give texture to a resin, then lighten everything with a single gesture. His style is rich and textured, yet never muddled: he holds the structure the way one holds a line.

Our collaboration with Bertrand Duchaufour is legitimate. He knew Les Bains Douches from the inside, frequenting our establishment in the late 1980s and then throughout the 1990s. He absorbed its energy, its contrasts, its freedom. That lived memory lends his compositions a rare accuracy, like a direct echo of the spirit of the place.

For Les Bains Guerbois, he has signed two creations with an instantly recognizable identity. 1978 Les Bains Douches captures the effervescence of Parisian nights. 1986 Eclectique pays tribute to 1980s perfumes and to Marie Line, the era’s famous physiotherapist, described as an iron hand in a velvet glove.

He began his career in 1985 at Lautier Florasynth, in Grasse and then Paris, working notably alongside Jean Louis Sieuzac, Michel Almairac and Dominique Ropion. He then continued in fine fragrance at Créations Aromatiques and later at Symrise. In 2008, he became an independent perfumer and turned toward niche perfumery, where he can compose without compromise and take risks.

His creations highlight high quality raw materials. He is particularly drawn to davana, iris, oud, patchouli and osmanthus: powerful, direct ingredients that allow him to create relief and tension, with an immediate presence on the skin.

Among his most frequently cited references are Timbuktu, Dzongkha, Patchouli Patch and Méchant Loup for L’Artisan Parfumeur; Avignon and Kyoto for Comme des Garçons; and Jubilation XXV Man for Amouage. Today, he extends this vision under his own name with L’Entropiste, a house where he explores perfumery with character: free, structured, without easy effects.
